Thank you for writing! A (terrible) Supreme Court case that justifies government taking of land is Hawaii Housing Authority v. Midkiff. 467 U.S. 229 (1984). The state had the “public’s benefit” in mind -- but, the bottom line is that the government took the land, paid too little for it, then turned around and sold it to developers who built vacation homes for affluent buyers from elsewhere.
Dear Lord, what evil is done both ‘in the fraudulent name of good’ and in the name of greed and lascivious pursuit! Of course, your exposure of this evil underbelly reveals the worst evil, the exploitation of children. Beautifully written and completely terrifying. Our nation can be cruel with one hand and generous with the other. It's hard to reconcile. Dick Allgire lives in Honolulu and respects the culture.
