American Patriotism: Reclaiming the Soul of a Nation
Part 5: A Patriotic Reflection on Values, Virtue, and the Vision of True Freedom
Before I proceed to the subsequent phase of our political action plan, allow me to invoke a reminder of certain quintessential American values. It is my hope that this reflection may serve to inspire a more earnest and committed approach, resonating with those who hold these principles dear.
I wish to articulate with unambiguous clarity that the following are my deeply held beliefs, the very essence of my being as an American patriot. No political party, no external force, can dictate or sway my moral compass or my quintessentially American values.
These are not just my values; they are the values that built this great nation. Allow me to delineate what I perceive to be the essence of a Patriotic American:
What is a Patriotic American?
The core American foundational principles and values that embody our decentralized Constitutional Federal Republic are not mere abstractions; they are the living attributes that reflect our nation, forging its identity. They are guided by a profound commitment to God, liberty, self-governance, and a sense of destiny that transcends the mundane. These are the values that every American should strive to achieve:
Faith in God: An unwavering belief in "the Almighty," providing moral guidance and infusing life with a higher sense of purpose.
Devotion to Family: The family as the bedrock of society, the nurturing ground where virtues are cultivated and bequeathed to succeeding generations.
Love of Country: A profound attachment to this land and our fledgling nation, coupled with an unhesitating willingness to sacrifice for its independence and prosperity.
Commitment to Liberty: An unyielding dedication to the principles of liberty and individual rights, standing resolutely against tyranny and oppression.
Respect for the Rule of Law: A firm belief in the sanctity of laws, constitutions, and governance by the people, in stark contrast to the arbitrary rule of monarchs or despots.
Civic Virtue: A heartfelt commitment to the common good, finding expression in public service, community involvement, and personal integrity.
Self-Reliance: An enduring belief in the virtues of hard work, thrift, and personal responsibility, reflecting the indomitable frontier spirit and the agrarian ethos that shaped our nation.
Valor in Defense of Freedom and Free Speech: A readiness to take up arms in defense of liberty, community, and nation, echoing the spirit of the Minutemen and Revolutionary soldiers.
Right to Bear Arms: A fundamental tenet of our Constitutional Federal Republic, the Second Amendment safeguards the individual's right to bear arms. It stands as a symbol of self-reliance, personal responsibility, and the inherent power of the citizenry. It echoes the revolutionary spirit that birthed our nation, affirming the timeless principle that a free people must possess the means to defend their liberty, their homes, and their way of life
Stewardship of the Land: A profound connection to the land and a sense of responsibility for its care and cultivation, honoring the agrarian roots of our nation.
Appreciation of Simplicity and Frugality: A preference for the simple, the frugal, and the modest, standing in conscious contrast to the excesses and corruptions of the Old World.
Respect for Tradition and Custom: A reverence for the accumulated wisdom of the past, the customs of our ancestors, and the continuity of community and tradition.
Sense of Destiny: A belief in a unique American destiny, often poetically expressed as a "City upon a Hill" or a beacon of liberty for the world.
These values resonate not merely as historical artifacts but as timeless human virtues and aspirations. They continue to echo in the American consciousness, shaping our understanding of what it means to be an American. They are our heritage, our culture, transcending political divisions and speaking to the core of the human condition. They call us to reflect on our responsibilities, our connections to one another, and our place in the grand tapestry of history. They are, in essence, the soul of our nation, and they are the values that I hold dear.
I love Capitalism:
Free Market: At the very core of my understanding of pure capitalism lies the free market, a sacred space where buyers and sellers interact without the heavy hand of government interference. Prices are sculpted by the natural forces of supply and demand, and individuals are free to make their own economic choices, guided by their own wisdom and values.
Private Property Rights: To me, capitalism is firmly grounded in the inviolable right to own and control property. This encompasses not only physical property but also the intangible treasures of ideas, labor, and the fruits of one's relentless efforts.
Voluntary Exchange: In the truly capitalist system that I envision, all economic transactions are voluntary, a dance of free will. People are free to buy, sell, and trade as they see fit, guided by their own interests and values, unshackled by coercion.
Profit Motive: The pursuit of profit, in my view, is not mere greed but a noble drive that fuels innovation, efficiency, and growth. It motivates individuals to work hard, take risks, and create value, enriching not only themselves but society as a whole.
Competition: Competition is the lifeblood of capitalism, the force that drives businesses to improve, innovate, and respond to the ever-changing needs of consumers. It fosters a dynamic and responsive economy, a vibrant dance of progress.
Limited Government: In its pure form, the capitalism I cherish calls for a limited role for government. This means no excessive regulations, no artificial price controls, and no undue interference in the sacred market.
No Income Tax: In the ideal vision of capitalism that I hold dear, there would be no income tax, allowing individuals to keep the full fruits of their labor. This reflects a profound belief in personal responsibility and the sacred right to enjoy one's hard-earned rewards.
Entrepreneurial Spirit: Capitalism, to me, is a celebration of the entrepreneur, the innovator, the risk-taker. It's a system that allows individuals to pursue their dreams, create new businesses, and contribute to the flourishing of our nation.
Consumer Sovereignty: In the capitalist system I envision, consumers are the ultimate sovereigns. Their choices guide producers, ensuring that resources are allocated according to the true wants and needs of the people.
Moral and Ethical Framework: Capitalism, in its ideal form, is not merely an economic system to me; it's a moral compass. It's based on principles of freedom, responsibility, and a deep respect for individual rights.
Pure capitalism, as described here, is more than an economic model; it's a vision of economic freedom and individual empowerment that resonates with my very soul. It's a system that trusts in the wisdom of individuals, the power of voluntary cooperation, and the boundless creative potential of the human spirit.
This vision stands as a beacon of liberty, in stark contrast to systems of control, coercion, and central planning. It reflects my belief in the inherent dignity of the individual, the sanctity of personal choice, and the potential for human flourishing when people are free to pursue their passions and interests.
This idealized vision of capitalism echoes the core principles of the American Revolution and the classical liberal tradition that I revere. It speaks to timeless questions about the nature of freedom, the role of government, and the potential for human achievement.
In a world often marked by complexity and compromise, this vision of pure capitalism serves as my philosophical touchstone, a reminder of fundamental values, and a call to reflect on the principles that guide our economic life. It challenges us to consider what it means to be truly free, not only in our economic transactions but in our lives as a whole. It's a vision that I strive to keep always in my mind, a guiding star in the pursuit of a more perfect union.
Where have these values gone? I must confess, the theories and beliefs of our time, whether they concern our nation being a corporation, our government's devolution, or the state of martial law, leave me unmoved. For all these ideas do is separate us from our original founding principles, principles which I have just elucidated with great care. These are the principles I strive to return to, to steer our country back towards—not for my own sake, but for the sake of my children, my grandchildren, and my great-great-grandchildren.
I grow weary of the grandstanding, the contest of who knows best, who is more intelligent. Such matters are of no consequence to me. None of that resonates with the values that we should always hold dear and near to our hearts. These values, somehow lost in the tumult of our times, remain etched in my memory. These are the values I fought for, that I lost brothers for, that I carried them home for, their sacrifices will echo for eternity.
You may choose to laugh, to make a joke of this, but when I think of the Constitution and the United States of America, the values I just described are what I embrace and think of. They are not owned by anyone. No one owns me. No one owns my beloved country. And if you think someone owns us, you have some soul-searching to do, or you must move out of the way.
These words are not mere rhetoric; they are a call to reflection, a plea to remember what once made us strong, and a challenge to reclaim those virtues. It's a vision of America that transcends the petty disputes of the day, reaching back to the bedrock of our identity. It's a vision I will not relinquish, for it's the soul of our nation, the essence of our shared destiny.
